Teasing Your Patients To Build Excitement and Anticipation.
I’m coming to you from location for my special series: Business Lessons from Disney, where I recently visited Disneyland and the D23 Expo (Disney’s Official Fan Club Convention). I’m finding business tips from Disney that can easily be incorporated into your dental practice to help you get more patients and keep your schedule full.
The D23 Expo is a convention exclusively for members of the Disney fan club that is held every two years. Tickets go on sale a year in advance, and sale out almost immediately. And the kicker is the purchasers aren’t told a single detail about the event before purchasing besides when and where it is. You don’t get an agenda, a list of scheduled presenters, or what exhibitors will be there. NOTHING.
If Disney is good at one thing it’s building excitement and anticipation. We didn’t even get an itinerary until a couple days before the first day. Still, people where camped out the night in line to get in and they didn’t even know what they were waiting for! The brief itinerary we did get a couple of days before was very vague so there were tons of surprises along each stop. The first morning Johnny Depp and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson just showed up and no one knew they were coming.

Why does this work? Because they are good at teasing the audience. Not giving the whole story, but giving just enough breadcrumbs along the way to keep you hooked. Plus, Disney delivers on the hype and anticipation. They didn’t disappoint.So in your office when you are announcing a new product, service, or upgrade to your practice don’t give it all away at once. Tease your patients along the way. Even if you haven’t fully developed the product, you can start teasing them to build excitement. Don’t feel compelled to give them the full story all at once.It will build their anticipation to make them want to come back to see the full reveal. What does that do for you? It will give you a great dental marketing angle and keep your patients coming back for more as long as you deliver the goods and a quality experience.
