Blocking Your Time Everyday

Once you see the value blocking your schedule can add to your practice, you’ll wonder how you ever survived without it.

Often times I hear doctors saying they want to accomplish certain production goals in their practice.

“I want to increase my production by 40% from last year.”

“I want to make $50,000 more this quarter than last quarter.”

I have seen it time and time again, but then the end of the quarter or end of year mark arrives and they are shocked and upset that the goal was not met. But, when you look back, often times you find you weren’t setting yourself up to meet that goal from the start. There was no plan in place to make it happen.

Which is why I wanted to share with you a sure fire way you can build your schedule, keep it full, and meet your production goals.

The key to meeting goals is putting action steps in place at each milestone to keep you on track for success at the finish line. My favorite analogy is comparing it to weight loss. You can’t lose weight if you don’t sit down and make a goal for 1-week, 1-month, 4-month milestone. Then, put steps in place to make sure each of those goals are met. You are walking up one step at a time, not taking one giant leap. You have to break it down. And meeting your production goals is no different.

You have to block your schedule for productivity every day. I didn’t invent this theory but I have definitely embraced it, in my private practice and in running my dental marketing business as well.

You have to block your schedule for high dollar activities every day. Have specific times allotted for crowns, bridges, implants, and inlays, whatever the ‘big ticket’ items in your office are. If you wait for those procedures to come, they never will. But if you have a spot for them in your schedule each day they will start to appear. Once those spots are in place, fill in other procedures around it like restorative and small surgeries, and on down the line.

If you’re still not fully grasping how blocking your schedule can really be a game changer in your practice I give two great examples in my quick video to really cement it for you.

But I promise when you implement your schedule block it will ease your stress, while also making you more productive with less effort. Everything will have a place. You can walk into your office each morning knowing what to expect because you have set yourself up for success.

(By the way – you can also apply this to your team as well! So make sure you take a few minutes to watch the video.)
